Texas High School Boys Lacrosse: Highland Park Boys Lacrosse Defeated St. Mark’s 6-4 To Win Third Consecutive Texas State Division I Title

Highland Park needed help climbing to the top of the Texas High School Lacrosse League on Sunday. Will Boeing was there to provide the last step.

The senior reserve attacker came off the bench and scored two goals and had an assist inside of 90 seconds at the end of the third quarter, turning a 3-2 deficit into a two-goal advantage as Highland Park went on to a gritty 6-4 win over St. Mark’s in the Division I title game at Highlander Stadium. It is Highland Park’s third straight championship.

Highland Park defeated St. Marks 6-4 to win its third consecutive state championship and fifth state title in the last seven years. The Fighting Scots have taken home the trophy in 2010, 2009, 2008, 2005 and 2004.

Boeing, replacing an injured starter, scored off a quick feed from James Mills with 1:22 left in the period. He then fed Campbell Powers from behind the net with a touch pass with 32 seconds left.

Highland Park won the ensuing face-off, and Boeing struck again 18 seconds later with a tight-angle shot from the left parallel to the goal.

HP goalie Jordan Lee was named the tournament Most Valuable Player after stopping nine shots and giving up only five goals in two games.

Fred Addy’s first goal midway through the third period gave St. Mark’s a 3-2 lead. Addy and Daniel Trevino scored two goals apiece for St. Mark’s, which has played in three of the last four Division I title games but lost all three.

Cody Crews and Mac Kelly had the other goals for Highland Park, which earned its league-record fifth state title in the last seven seasons.

Coppell 12, Houston Christian 2: Coppell won its second consecutive Division II title, taking control early with four first-period goals.

Hayden Hawk (four goals) scored three minutes in to get Coppell on the board. Tyler Landis (three goals)scored 90 seconds later in front of goals by Ryan Lambert and Tommy McClennahan to make it 4-0.

Houston Christian rallied with two second-period goals, but Coppell goalies Conner Yingling and Paul Wahlstrom faced only four shots the rest of the way.

Coppell’s Preston Allison and Trent Dennington also scored in the final period.
