Nike US Lacrosse West Region High School Lacrosse Top 10

Winning on the road
Carondelet coach Rick Jeffery knew he had to make some adjustments against Amador Valley in the North Coast Section Division I girls lacrosse championship.
The Dons beat his team 10-9 in the regular season and Jeffery’s challenge was to find a way to contain Amador Valley’s draw specialist Jackie Gilbert. This time, Carondelet focused on trapping Gilbert to force turnovers and create 50-50 balls off the draw.
The Cougars also had to make sure they had the right balance to counter Amador Valley’s depth. The game plan worked as Cali Castagnola scored with 34 seconds remaining in the first overtime period and Carondelet won 9-7 for its third consecutive North Coast Section Division I championship.
The victory was even sweeter as it came on Amador Valley’s home field.
“It’s a great rivalry and that really motivated my girls,” Jeffery said. “There was a change of venue at the last minute and we had to play at their place. That gave the girls some extra motivation. They wanted to win it in their field.”
Cherry Creek wins No. 10
Cherry Creek coach Brianne Tierney spent her first year as head coach of the Bruins adding even more prestige to the storied history of the program.
The top seeded Bruins won their 10th state championship with a convincing 20-10 victory over Centaurus, which was making its first appearance in the title game. Cherry Creek has advanced to all 16 state championship games since the sport was sanctioned in Colorado and won three of the past four titles.
Blair Sisk was the most dominant player on the field, leading the Bruins with seven goals and two assists. Cherry Creek set a state record with 20 goals in the title game.
Sarah Brown led Centaurus with four goals.
After the Warriors pulled to within 5-4 late in the first half, Caroline Perry and Livvy List quickly answered for Cherry Creek. The Bruins then outscored Centaurus 12-5 in the second half.
Cherry Creek also beat the Warriors 13-12 during the regular season.
Lakeside wins No. 9
Lakeside (Wash.) won its ninth state Washington Lacrosse Girls State Championship with a 13-7 victory over Lake Sammamish (Wash.).
Amanda Roper led the way with five goals and was named co-MVP, along with Lions goalie Amerra Sheckles, who finished with seven saves. Lakeside trailed 6-5 at the half, but outscored Lake Sammamish 8-1 after the break.
Natalie Fox and Rebecca Long also scored twice for Lakeside (15-1), which avenged an 8-7 loss to Lake Sammamish in the regular season.
