Stanford Women's Lacrosse vs Oregon

Six consecutive goals from 15th-ranked Stanford midway through the first half propelled the Cardinal to a convincing 15-8 victory over visiting Oregon in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation contest at Laird Q. Cagen Stadium Friday evening.
The six-goal outburst, propelled by two goals apiece for Anna Kim and Rachel Ozer, erased a sluggish start for Stanford (9-4, 4-1 MPSF) and a 2-1 deficit. The Cardinal never looked back, utilizing a harassing defense to consistency turn over the visiting Ducks (7-8, 2-4 MPSF) in taking a 9-3 lead into halftime.
Stanford upped its lead to 12-4 early in the second half before play settled down.
Stanford forced 26 Oregon turnovers and consistently turned those miscues into points with an athletic, precision attack in the offensive zone. Stanford peppered Oregon with 41 shots; goalie Caroline Federighi played well with 16 saves but could do no more as five Cardinal players registered at least two goals.

NCAA Lacrosse: Cal Berkeley Women’s Lacrosse (7-4) Gets 14-10 Road Win Over Oregon On April 7

Cal Berkeley Women's Lacrosse vs Oregon

Megan Takacs and Melissa Humphrey scored half of California’s goals as the Golden Bears defeated Oregon, 14-10, Sunday afternoon in Eugene, Ore. With the win, Cal improved to 7-4 overall and remained undefeated in conference play at 4-0.
Takacs paced the Bears with four goals, while Humphrey was right behind her with three goals and an assist. Gaby Christman and Amelia Burke also notched two goals each.
The Bears, who entered the contest in a tie for first place in the MPSF Conference, traded goals with Oregon to start the game. The Ducks led, 3-2, when Cal scored five unanswered goals on a streak that extended into the second half.
“We didn’t really make any adjustments at halftime, but we told the girls that our two-goal lead at the half was not going to be enough,” head coach Ginger Miles said. “We played well over the course of the game. We executed our gameplan.”
Starting with Cal’s five-goal streak, until there were five minutes remaining in the contest, the Bears had only allowed three goals from the Ducks. Cal led, 14-6, before Oregon scored four times in the game’s final minutes.
This win was a little sweeter for the Bears since Oregon was the team that knocked Cal out of the 2012 MPSF Tournament.
“This was a game that we were fired up about since they beat us in the conference tournament last year,” Miles said. “We had been working hard all week long at practice in preparing for this game. Our girls were really excited about it.”
Defensively for the Bears, goalkeeper Megan McGinnis notched 11 saves for the third time this year, and it was also her fourth game of 2013 with double-digit saves. Grace Parente notched six ground balls. She leads the team in that category with 22.
With her four goals, Takacs took over sole possession of second place on Cal’s all-time career goals list, now with 129. She is 16 scores shy of the all-time record. With her lone assist on the day, Humphrey is tied for second all-time at Cal in career assists with 63. She is 20 helpers away from first.

NCAA Lacrosse: #8 Syracuse Men’s Lacrosse Middie Henry Schoonmaker (Lincoln HS, OR) Tallies Six Points (4 Goals, 2 Assists) In Leading Orange To A 13-12 Win Over #7 Princeton On April 6; Follows Colgate’s Peter Baum (2012 Tewaaraton Award) As Latest Lincoln High Star Making Impact At D1 Level

Syracuse Men's Lacrosse Henry Schoonmaker vs Princeton

Late in the fourth quarter of the best game of his young career, Henry Schoonmaker (Lincoln HS, OR) needed a break.
After the redshirt freshman poked the ball free on a faceoff to get the Syracuse men’s lacrosse team possession, he scored the tying goal and scooped up the ground ball on the ensuing faceoff to give the Orange a chance to take the lead.
John Desko took a timeout to set up his offense.
Schoonmaker — exhausted by that point — walked slowly over to the sideline, happy his career night would briefly be put on hold.
“I was a little happy when the timeout came,” he said. “I haven’t felt like that since high school running that much. It was definitely nice to get that timeout.”
Senior JoJo Marasco ultimately scored the game winning goal on that possession, but Schoonmaker was the key in No. 8 Syracuse’s 13-12 come-from-behind win over No. 7 Princeton on Saturday at Princeton Stadium. The midfielder tallied a career-high six points on four goals and two assists to spark the Orange offense but also came up huge as a wing on faceoffs. He made big plays to start and finish the game for SU (7-2).
“He definitely came out with a bang today,” junior Matt Harris said. “He’s a stud athlete. He can run. He can pass. He can shoot. I think it was kind of his coming out party today.”
Schoonmaker got involved with early with two quick goals in the first quarter but showed up again in the fourth to help SU rally for the win.
Princeton took a 12-10 lead with 6:57 left, but Syracuse quickly mounted a comeback. Billy Ward scored from the top of the crease on a feed from Marasco, and Schoonmaker took over from there.
Tigers faceoff specialist Justin Murphy won the ensuing faceoff forward, but Schoonmaker flew in from the wing to poke the ball away. After Harris eventually gobbled up the ground ball, Schoonmaker ripped a shot into the top corner to even the score at 12-12.
On the next faceoff, the sophomore ripped the ball out of a scrum at the X and picked it up himself this time to give SU possession.

USC Women's Lacrosse vs Oregon

USC women’s lacrosse freshman midfield Haleigh Dalmass scored the first goal of the game and had the game-winner in a 12-10 victory over defending MPSF champion Oregon at Pape Field on Thursday, April 4. The Women of Troy (6-8, 3-2 MPSF) overcame inclement weather conditions and weathered two Duck leads to produce a much-needed signature victory over Oregon (5-6, 0-2).
The Trojans got a second consecutive four-goal game from freshman attack Caroline Cordrey who scored twice from free-position opportunities. Freshman attack Caroline de Lyra was the catalyst for USC as she picked up her 10th hat trick of the year with three goals. De Lyra also notched three assists; her fifth game, this season, with at least three helpers.
Freshman attack Paige Bonomi added a pair of goals and had USC’s other assist. Freshman midfield Amanda Johansen scored once, and tied for game-high honors with four draw controls. Dalmass also had four draw controls while freshman defense Courtney Tarleton added four draw controls and had two caused turnovers. In the cage, freshman goalie Liz Shaeffer recorded five saves.
Without its top scorer Kate Cathell, Oregon got five goals from Hayley Milner while Shannon Propst dished out three assists. Milner did her damage off assists from Propst but also scored three times on free-position shots. The Ducks started the game with Salliebeth Finnegan in the cage, but finished with Caroline Federighi.
With her back to the goal, Cordrey hit Dalmass in stride for the first goal of the game at 26:32 to get USC on the board. The Ducks had a quick response as Milner scored on a free-position shot just over 30 seconds later. The Trojans went up, 2-1, on a goal by Cordrey who rolled to her left to avoid the Oregon defense. USC had a third different player score when Bonomi found the back of the cage on a quick stick push to the goal. De Lyra had dropped the ball behind the goal but recovered swiftly to send a perfect pass to Bonomi.
USC’s two-goal lead didn’t last long as Propst dished out a pair of successive assists for Oregon goals from Milner and Carly O’Connell to tie the score for a second time at three-all. Olivia Pyne’s post-up opportunity yielded another Duck goal midway through the first half as Oregon claimed its first lead of the game, 4-3. Two minutes later, de Lyra and freshman attack Katie Austin both rolled the Oregon crease, but de Lyra fired a shot that went over the Duck netminder’s shoulder to square the score at four-all.
