National League Lacrosse: 2012 NLL West All-Star Team Lineup Announced Featuring Colorado Mammoth Players Landing Four Of Six Starting Spots
The National Lacrosse League has announced the starting lineups for the 2012 NLL All-Star Game, at First Niagara Center in Buffalo on Saturday, February 25. The East & West All-Star Team starting lineups were selected by a vote of NLL fans, the league’s General Managers & Head Coaches, as well as members of the media.
Starting Lineup, West All-Stars:
Forward – John Grant Jr. (Colorado Mammoth)
Forward – Adam Jones (Colorado Mammoth)
Transition – Andrew Suitor (Minnesota Swarm)
Defenseman – Rory Smith (Colorado Mammoth)
Defenseman – Kyle Rubisch (Edmonton Rush)
Goaltender – Chris Levis (Colorado Mammoth)
The Colorado Mammoth dominated the West vote, landing four of the six spots in the starting lineup. January Player of the Month John Grant Jr. and Rookie of the Month Adam Jones were selected as the starting forwards. This will be the 8th career All-Star selection for Grant, and the second for goaltender Chris Levis. Rounding out the Mammoth quartet is defenseman Rory Smith, earning his first All-Star selection.
Edmonton Rush defenseman Kyle Rubisch has now made the All-Star team in both of his first two seasons in the league. Minnesota Swarm transition player and Swarm team captain Andrew Suitor makes his first All-Star team.

National League Lacrosse: Washington Stealth Notch First Win In 11-10 Overtime Victory Over Buffalo Bandits
The Washington Stealth earned its first win of 2012 tonight, needing overtime to get past the Buffalo Bandits in front of over 14,000 fans at the First Niagara Center. The Stealth got great performances by numerous players, including All-Pro forward Rhys Duch whose fourth goal of the night gave the Stealth an 11-10 win in overtime.
The Stealth, which had led the National Lacrosse League in goals scored in each of the last two seasons, entered tonight’s game averaging a league-low eight goals per game. The leading scorers for the Stealth, Duch and fellow All-Pro forward Lewis Ratcliff, had combined for just 21 points in the first three games. The duo bucked that trend against the Bandits as Duch finished with a game-high eight points (4g, 4a) and Ratcliff tallied six points (3g, 3a) of his own.
“Our best players need to come out and be our best players,” said Stealth Assistant Coach Art Webster after the game. “We made some adjustments offensively and Rhys and Lewis really stepped up and answered the bell.”
Both Duch and Ratcliff got on the board in the early stages of the game. Duch tied the score at one five minutes into the game. The early goal was an indication the fourth-year forward was primed for a strong outing.

National League Lacrosse: Colorado Mammoth Defeat Edmonton Rush 11-7 To Improve To 5-0 On Season
In a sport where the best goaltenders average 10 or more goals-against per game and save 80 percent of their shots or less, Chris Levis stood tall for the Colorado Mammoth on Saturday night.
Levis made 37 saves and the Mammoth finished strong with four goals in the final five minutes to defeat the Edmonton Rush, 11-7, at Pepsi Center.
“He is a good goaltender and I don’t think he gets enough credit throughout the league,” said Colorado head coach Bob Hamley of Levis. “We talk about getting respect and he is quickly earning it.”
The victory improves Colorado to 5-0 on the season, tying its best start to a National Lacrosse League campaign with the 2008 team. The Mammoth remains as the only undefeated team in the league.
After Colorado could only muster one goal on a five-minute power play in the first quarter, a Gavin Prout high-sticking penalty five minutes into the second period gave Edmonton the chance to grab momentum with its own five-minute, man-up chance.

National League Lacrosse: Colorado Mammoth Is NLL’s Only Unbeaten Team At 4-0 In Their Best Start Since 2005
The Colorado Mammoth remain the NLL’s only unbeaten team through Week 4 and retain the top spot in the ILIndoor.com power rankings.
The Mammoth (4-0) got three goals and four assists from league scoring leader John Grant Jr. in a 14-11 win over the Rochester Knighthawks last Saturday night. It’s the best start by Colorado since 2005, when they won their first five games.
Coach Bob Hamley’s team will try to match that Saturday when they face the Edmonton Rush at the Pepsi Center. The game is set to begin at 9 p.m. ET and can be seen on the NLL Network at NLL.com
John Grant Jr. had three goals and four assists, pushing his league-leading point total to 37, as the Mammoth topped the Knighthawks 14-11 on Saturday night. Grant, who played 10 seasons with Rochester, told ColoradoMammoth.com that this matchup held special meaning for him.
“I was looking forward to this game a little too badly,” he said. “It’s a team I played 10 years with and I owe a lot to the organization. I really wanted a win in this barn and we got it.”
Colorado remains the only unbeaten team in the league and will play three of its next four at the Pepsi Center, considered one of the most raucous arenas in the NLL.

National League Lacrosse: Colorado Mammoth (4-0) Defeat Rochester Knighthawks 14-11 Jan 28
Grant led an offensive onslaught in the first half and the Mammoth held off a Rochester Knighthawks rally in the second half as Colorado won 14-11 on Saturday night at Pepsi Center.
It doesn’t take much for John Grant Jr. to get up for most games, but the Colorado Mammoth alternate captain was especially anxious for tonight’s game against the Rochester Knighthawks.
“I was looking forward to this game a little too badly,” said Grant. “It is a team I played 10 years with and I owe a lot to the organization. I really wanted this win in this barn and we got it.”
The Mammoth remains undefeated on the season and has a two-game lead in the NLL West Division over the Calgary Roughnecks. Colorado’s 4-0 start is its best to begin a season since 2008 when the team won its first five contests.
Grant, who had a game-high seven points, was one of three Mammoth players who finished with three goals – joining Sean Pollock and Jamie Lincoln.
Coming into the game, Lincoln was a bit under the weather, but you couldn’t tell as he finished with his second hat trick at home this season.
“It seems like most times when people are sick and are not feeling well, they have really good games and that is what I was hoping for,” Lincoln said. “It is hard to worry about a stomach ache when you have a lot of fans in the building.”

National League Lacrosse: Washington Stealth Lose 16-5 To Edmonton Rush To Fall To 0-3
The Washington Stealth suffered its worst loss since 2009 tonight, falling 16-5 to the Edmonton Rush (1-1) at the Comcast Arena. The loss drops the Stealth to 0-3 for the first time in team history, dating back to 2000 when the team was created as the Albany Attack.
The Rush took control of the game from the onset, scoring the first three goals of the game in the opening two minutes of action. They went on to score the first five goals of the game. The Stealth showed some signs of life late in the first quarter, as offseason acquisitions Dean Hill and Kyle Ross netted the first goals of their respective Stealth careers, but the Rush held a firm 6-2 advantage after the opening fifteen minutes.
The Stealth would only muster two more goals in the second stanza as Lewis Ratcliff and Curtis Hodgson found the back of the net. Ratcliff’s was the lone power play goal on the night for the Stealth on four chances.
The Rush continued to pull away with five goals in the second quarter, including a marker by former Stealth forward Tom Johnson, who finished the night with two goals and three assists against his former team. Corey Small notched a pair in the quarter, giving him a first half hat trick. The Rush held an 11-4 lead at the halftime break.

National League Lacrosse: Washington Stealth Lose 10-9 To Philadelphia Wings In Overtime
The Washington Stealth battled back from a three-goal deficit in the first quarter, but lost 10-9 in overtime to the Philadelphia Wings January 21.
Kevin Crowley, the top pick in the most recent National Lacrosse League Entry Draft, scored his fifth goal of the night just over three minutes into overtime to give the Wings its first win of 2012, while the Stealth drops to 0-2 for the first time since 2009.

The first quarter belonged to Philadelphia, as Crowley single-handedly put the Wings on top with a natural hat trick in the opening frame. The Stealth answered in the second quarter, outscoring the Wings 3-0 on goals from Jeff Zywicki, Brett Hickey and Matt Beers. Hickey’s was the first of his career.
The goaltenders were stellar in the first half; the Stealth’s Tyler Richards making 17 first half saves while his counterpart for the Wings, Brandon Miller, made 21. But while Miller was fantastic throughout the game, the first half score line was an unusual sight for the Stealth, who has led the NLL in goals scored each of the last two seasons.

National League Lacrosse: Colorado Mammoth Score 13-12 Victory Over Edmonton Rush
In the first half of the Mammoth’s road debut this season, 37-year-old John Grant Jr. watched as 22-year-old rookie Adam Jones scored four goals. In the second half, the veteran took over, scoring four of his five goals on the night, and assisting on two more. Grant scored the final two goals in the 4th quarter, including the game-winner with 14.5 seconds remaining, to help the Mammoth jump out to its first 2-0 start since 2008. Edmonton, opening the season at Rexall Place, fell to 0-1 with the 13-12 loss.
“I’m not sure how it got in there,” said Grant, referring to his fifth of the night. “On the last couple, I shot between [Rush goaltender Aaron Bold’s] legs, so this time I ducked my shoulder and went high.”
Everything Grant is doing early in the season is working. He now leads the National Lacrosse League with 20 points through just two games.
