Major League Lacrosse: Denver Outlaws (4-0) Win May 18 Home Opener 20-7 Over Rochester Rattlers

Denver Outlaws vs Rochester Rattlers 20-7 win

Five Outlaws had multiple-goal games in the Denver Outlaws’ (4-0) home opener Saturday, lifting them to a 20-7 victory against the Rochester Rattlers (1-3). Saturday’s contest marked the Outlaws’ 11th time scoring 20 or more goals in a game in franchise history.
“We’re definitely excited to be back [home],” said Chris Bocklet, who was named the Player of the Game. “We played so well today because we wanted to give the fans a good show.”
Bocklet—who led all scorers with six goals—matched his career high, which he set in the Outlaws’ season opener against the Charlotte Hounds on April 27. The attackman also added two assists for a career-best eight points. Jeremy Boltus and Brendan Mundorf added four goals apiece.
“This team is very unselfish,” Mundorf said. “We all share the ball. Everyone can dodge and create, and everyone can finish. That makes us hard to stop and creates a lot of guys scoring points.”
The Outlaws’ unselfish play was on display from the opening whistle. Bocklet scored the first goal of the game off an assist from Drew Snider 1:35 into the contest. Rob Rotanz answered with an unassisted tally to tie the game at one. Following Rotanz’ goal, Mundorf netted back-to-back goals to give the Outlaws a 3-1 lead. With 12 seconds remaining in the first quarter, Bocklet notched his second tally of the game on a powerplay.
In the second period, the Rattlers’ Jordan MacIntosh narrowed the Outlaws’ advantage to two before Bocklet responded with his third goal of the game. After a tally from the Rattlers’ Kevin Leveille, the Outlaws rattled off four consecutive goals—including Bocklet’s fourth score and two tallies from Jeremy Boltus in the final minute of the half—to take a 9-3 lead heading into the locker room.

Major League Lacrosse: Denver Outlaws (3-0) Get Off To Fast Start, Defeat Boston Cannons (0-3) 14-10 At Harvard Stadium On May 11 (Video)

The Denver Outlaws remained undefeated Saturday night as they defeated the winless Boston Cannons 14-10 at Harvard Stadium.

Denver got off to a quick start thanks to eventual player of the game Drew Snider, who scored his first of five goals 13 seconds after the opening face-off.  A goal by Terry Kimenr and another tally from Snider brought the score to 3-0 before the Cannons answered back with 2 of their own from Paul Rabil and Mike Stone. Zach Greer, in his first game with the Outlaws, scored on a power player and Justin Pennington followed up to bring the score to 5-2 after the first quarter.
The second quarter opened similarly to the first, with Snider and Terry Kimener scoring the first two goals. Former Outlaw Colin Briggs scored the next goal, off an assist from Boston captain Ryan Boyle, which earned him 400 career points, breaking the Major League Lacrosse Record previously held by Casey Powell. The Outlaws and Cannons traded several goals to close out the first half, including another goal by Greer and a goal after a face-off by Anthony Kelly. The Outlaws went into halftime leading 9-6.
The Cannons came out firing in the second half and eventually tied the score at 9-9. Greer quickly answered back with a goal for at hat trick. Greer got the next point of the game as well, with a slick behind the back goal to put the Outlaws up by 2. The Cannons ended the third quarter with a goal of their own to bring the score to 11-10.

Major League Lacrosse: Denver Outlaws (2-0) Dominate, Defeat Ohio Machine 13-8 On May 4

With the return of Outlaws veteran Brendan Mundorf, the Outlaws won their second straight game in 2013, 13-8, on Saturday night in Columbus, Ohio. This win brings the Outlaws to 8 straight wins in the regular season, breaking their previously held record of 7.
The Outlaws only trailed once, when the Machine scored on a Chazz Woodson goal 3:12 into the contest, the Outlaws responded with a 5-0 run to stake a 5-1 lead in the first quarter. Goals came from Chris Bocklet, Jeremy Sieverts, Terry Kimener and 2 from Mundorf, who played in his first game since suffering from an ankle injury before Championship Weekend in 2012. Face-off specialist Anthony Kelly started the game 5-of-5 against his former teammates. Kelly was traded to the Outlaws from the Machine in July of 2012.
The Machine answered back with 3 goals in the second quarter, to cut the Outlaws lead to 5-4 at the half. We got sloppy,” Outlaws Head Coach Jim Stagnitta said at halftime. “We had some opportunities, but didn’t finish them. We held on to the ball too long. We have to get the ball out of our sticks. Ohio is doing a really nice job getting out and putting some pressure on us. We just have to put the ball in the cage. We had some opportunities, we just have to take advantage of it.”
The third quarter belonged to the Outlaws as they scored 5 to Ohio’s 1. After goals by Justin Pennington and Justin Turri, Mundorf fed a cutting Bocklet to give him his second goal of the game. After an Ohio goal to cut the Oultaws lead to 8-5, Denver scored two more from Drew Snider and Will Mangan to bring the lead to 10-5 at the end of the third.
