NCAA Lacrosse: Video Highlights Of UMass Men’s Lacrosse (9-4) 11-5 Win Over Delaware

Freshman Connor Mooneystole the show on Senior Night as the rookie tallied a career-high five goals to lead No. 19 UMass to a dominating 11-5 win over Delaware under the lights at Garber Field. With the win, UMass will travel to either Hofstra or Penn State in the CAA Semifinals on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The seeding spots are unknown, but based on tie-breakers UMass will play at PSU if the Nittany Lions lose at Hofstra on Saturday night. If Hofstra loses to PSU on Saturday, UMass will now play at Hofstra on Wednesday.

The Minutemen are now 9-4 overall and finish the CAA season at 4-2. Delaware is also 4-2 in the league and 9-6 overall. The decisive game for determing the CAA standings takes place at Hofstra tomorrow as Penn State plays at the Pride. The winner of the Hofstra-PSU game cliches the league regular-season crown with a 5-1 record while the three others (including UMass and Delaware) would tie for second at 4-2. In a three-way tie with Penn State for second, the standings finish: PSU, UMass and Delaware. With Hofstra in the trio it would be: Hofstra, UMass and Delaware based on tie-breakers.

NCAA Men’s Lacrosse: Ohio State Men’s Lacrosse To Hold Annual Alumni Game Oct. 8 And Will Face Delaware, Navy And Sienna On Oct. 24 In Delaware

Ohio State Men’s Lacrosse Head Coach Nick Myers talks about fall ball schedule and its annual alumni game Friday night under the lights at the Harmon Family Football Park. Beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Ohio State Men’s Lacrosse Fall Ball 2010

The current Buckeyes will take on the alumni squad, followed by an alumni game and the Scarlet vs. Gray game for the current players on adjacent fields about 7:15 p.m. 

The team will wrap up the fall schedule with three games at Delaware Sunday, Oct. 24. The Buckeyes will take on Delaware, Navy and Sienna in Newark, Del.

Friday marks the second alumni gathering for the Buckeyes this fall. Sept. 17 the team held the Lindner Family Memorial Golf Outing on the Scarlet Course at the Ohio State Golf Club. The outing, which was run in conjunction with the Ohio State Men’s Varsity O organization, raised more than $10,000 for the Aidan W., Daniel P., and Angela M. Lindner Memorial Athletic Scholarship Fund.

Buckeye News and Notes

  • Congrats to assistant coach Dave Dobbins and his wife, Erin, on the birth of their daughter, Colleen Josephine, Tuesday afternoon. Their first child, she weighed in at 6 lbs. 14 oz and is 21 ½” long.
  • Terry Gilmore, Ohio State’s all-time leading point scorer and a two-time Midwest Lacrosse Association Player of the Year, was named an assistant coach at Colorado College. He most recently was the head coach at Cheyenne Mountain High School and was a two-time Colorado Springs Gazette Coach of the Year.
  • Former Buckeye Kevin Buchanan competed in the Bowhunter Cup, an international exhibition between the United States and the Iroquois Nationals, a warm-up for the World Indoor Lacrosse Championship set for May 21-28, 2011. Buchanan is one of a select group of players Team USA will be drawn from.

Best Of Delaware High School Boys Lacrosse: Tower Hill Boys Lacrosse (14-3) Defeated #1 Salesianum 5-4 In Overtime To Win State Championship On May 29, 2010 (Video)

Heading into Saturday’s Delaware High School lacrosse state championship game, Salesianum (Wilmington) had lost just once in the last four years to a Delaware team. Now, they’ve lost twice.

 The teams were tied 1-1 at the half and then Sallies erupted for three third-quarter goals to take a 4-1 lead heading into the fourth quarter. And it was then that the Hillers began their comeback.

“This whole year, we haven’t been a runaway team,” Tower Hill senior Ripley Nielsen told The News Journal. “We grind it out. We just kept our composure and we were patient.”
Tower Hill used a patient, methodical offensive strategy, along with a tenacious defensive effort, to mount its comeback. Pettit opened up the fourth-quarter scoring for Tower Hill at the 8:34 mark off a nice assist from senior midfielder Blaise Taylor. Junior attack Chase Robino then scored to get the Hillers within one with 1:38 left in regulation.

 
 
 

 

No. 3 Tower Hill (Wilmington) scored two late goals to send the title game into overtime for the first time in its history, and then following a scoreless first overtime, sophomore Michael Pettit found the back of the net in the second extra period to give the Hillers a 5-4 upset win over top-seeded Salesianum.
