NCAA Lacrosse: Ohio State Men’s Lacrosse Loses To Loyola 8-7 On March 21 (Video)

The Ohio State men’s lacrosse team dropped its first ECAC Lacrosse League game of the season, falling to No. 4/5 Loyola, 8-7, Saturday at Ridley Athletic Complex in Baltimore.

Ohio State (4-6, 2-1 ECAC) and Loyola (9-0, 3-0 ECAC) were tied at 3 at halftime before the Greyhounds scored the only three goals of the third quarter for a 6-3 advantage. Ohio State drew within one (6-5) at 8:19 of the fourth quarter but two goals from the Greyhounds in a 1:16 span (2:30, 1:14) pushed Loyola back ahead by three, 8-5. Ohio State scored twice in the final nine seconds to cut the deficit to one but was unable to get another shot after the final faceoff with just three seconds remaining.

The Buckeyes continue their stretch of three-consecutive road games with a league matchup at Hobart at noon next Saturday (April 7) in Geneva, N.Y.

Sophomore goalie Greg Dutton made 12 saves for the Buckeyes, who were the first team to hold the Greyhounds to less than 11 goals this season. Junior leading scorer Logan Schuss led Ohio State with four points, including two goals and two assists. Freshman Jesse King scored twice and added an assist for a three-point day.

Ivy League Lacrosse: Video Highlights Of Princeton Men’s Lacrosse 10-9 Win Over Yale In 5 Overtimes On March 24

Alex Capretta couldn’t remember which overtime it was. Maybe the second. Maybe the third.

All he knew is that it all wanted to be on the field and at that one moment a few OTs earlier, he wasn’t. Instead, during a few shifts way back when – who could remember? – it had been Forest Sonnenfeldt in Capretta’s spot.

“They put Forest in and I know why,” Capretta said. “But every player wants to be in there. Fortunately, I got back in.”

After it ended, he could laugh about it, and why not, it had worked out perfectly for him. And hey, after everything that had just happened, who could blame anyone if some of the details – like which overtime it had been – were a blur.

Capretta ended the longest game in the history of Princeton lacrosse and Yale lacrosse with a goal with 2:21 gone in the fifth – yes, fifth – overtime, giving the Tigers a heart-stopping 10-9 win over the Bulldogs in front of 1,057 at Reese Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Princeton had previously played three four overtime games, most recently a year ago in a 5-4 win over Brown. Yale had played one four overtime game in its history.

Last Time Out: Johns Hopkins improved to 7-0 with an 11-7 victory over then sixth-ranked Syracuse at Homewood Field last Saturday. Virginia erased an early 6-1 deficit and knocked off Ohio State, 11-9, in Columbus.

Series History: Johns Hopkins and Virginia are meeting for the 85th time in a series that dates to a 9-0 Johns Hopkins victory in 1904. MCLA Lacrosse: This Week’s Top Games Feature #1 Colorado State Men’s Lacrosse Vs #4 Cal Poly, #16 Minnesota-Duluth Vs #8 Arizona State And #3 BYU Vs #7 Oregon

No. 4 Cal Poly (6-1) at No. 1 Colorado State (6-0) – Friday, 7 p.m.

COYNE: When I correspond with CSU head coach Alex Smith, he displays the same quiet cockiness that John Paul had in his last couple of (MCLA) years in Ann Arbor. It’s easy to see why, as there aren’t many holes in the lineup and Greyson Konkel hasn’t played up to speed yet. If this game was in SLO, I actually might take a flyer on the ‘Stangs just to see if I could make up some ground, but not at altitude. Rams, 7-4.

SCHOOLER: Colorado State has not lost a game in Fort Collins since the 2010 season and that was against the eventual national champs, Michigan. Until they play UCSB on March 29, I will pick the Rams to win at home, 9-7.

No. 16 Minnesota-Duluth (4-4) at No. 8 Arizona State (5-3) – Friday, 7 p.m. MT

COYNE: If the Bulldogs had shown just a slightly higher proficiency on the offensive end of the field, I’d go with Duluth. As it is, they are going to play a style of game that will accentuate all of the Sun Devils strengths. ASU, 5-4.

SCHOOLER: The Bulldogs do a lot of traveling due to their lack of full-field space. It has to hurt in the short-term, but will pay off during the national championships in May. Playing in Scottsdale will be no different for Duluth. They have struggled to put together a complete game, and this will be no different. The Sun Devils win this, 7-4.

No. 7 Oregon (6-2) at No. 3 BYU (9-1) – Saturday, 7 p.m.

COYNE: The Cougars have flipped a switch since their California trip, but this will be the first true test of their new approach. The Ducks will make them work, but it’ll be BYU at the end. Cougs, 12-10.

SCHOOLER: I think BYU is better than people think. They started their season with a bunch of away games and struggled a bit. Now they are back in Provo. Oregon is a great team, as well. I see them keeping the game close, but coming up short, 14-13.

MCLA Lacrosse: Video Highlights Of Oregon Men’s Lacrosse 20-13 Win Over Simon Fraser On March 3

Oregon lacrosse team had an out of the country experience as they go north to take on their PNCLL arch rivals, the Simon Fraser Clan, in Burnaby Canada.  Both offenses came out firing and the game swung back and forth fueled by several goal runs.  Along the way, the Ducks’ Matt Johnson and SFU’s Calvin Craig scored some sweet goals.  SFU’s chances faded late in the third quarter when they picked up a three-minute non-releasable penalty for the most egregious hit ever filmed by Bhsvideodad.
