Major League Lacrosse: Denver Outlaws (7-0) Stay Unbeaten With 13-9 Win Over Chesapeake Bayhawks On June 15; Eric Law Scores 5 Goals

Denver Outlaws vs Chesapeake Bayhawks

The Outlaws have only lost one game in the last 357 days.
That loss came to the Chesapeake Bayhawks in the 2012 Steinfeld Cup Championship Game.
Denver got a measure of revenge for that game’ outcome with a 13-9 victory over the Bayhawks at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Saturday. The win improves the Outlaws’ record to 7-0 and gives Denver a two-game lead on top of the MLL standings.
“Some of the things we’ve tried to do while building a team were to try to compete better with the Bayhawks,” Head Coach Jim Stagnitta said on this week’s MLL conference call. “I think that’s a credit to Dave (Cottle) and what they’ve done with their squad.”
Eric Law kept his perfect shooting streak intact, leading all players with five goals. Law, who scored on all four of his shots in his MLL debut last week was 5-of-5 shooting on Saturday to increase his goal total to nine on nine shots.
While Law had no problem solving Bayhawks goalie Kip Turner, the Bayhawks goalie saved more than 70 percent of shots off the rest of the Outlaws’ sticks.
Both Turner and Outlaws goalie Jesse Schwartzman turned in strong performances to keep the league’s two highest-scoring offenses to a combined 21 goals. Schwartzman saved 17-of-26 shots (.654 pct.) and Turner stopped 19-of-32 (.594 pct) for the game.
Law, who scored the first goal of each of the four quarters, netted his first goal 4:23 into the game to open the scoring off an assist from Brendan Mundorf.

Major League Lacrosse: Denver Outlaws Attacker Eric Law Earns “MLL Rookie Of The Week” Award

Denver Outlaws Lacrosse Rookie Of The Week Eric Law

Just hours after graduating with the rest of the University of Denver Class of 2013, Eric Law joined his new Denver Outlaws teammates for the first time and made his professional debut at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
Law tied for a game-high with four goals and earned Player of the Game efforts after helping Denver improve to 6-0 and emerge as the only remaining unbeaten MLL team with the club’s 22-9 win over previously undefeated Hamilton.
On graduating from DU and winning player of the game honors in his MLL debut all in the same day:
“To start off, it’s just awesome to graduate from the University of Denver. It was so much fun being there with all my family, friends, and college teammates. Being with all those guys this morning and being able to transition tonight and these guys take me under their wing I can’t thank them enough for the opportunity that they give me. It was just so much fun.”
On how he felt in his MLL debut:
“It’s fun. I really enjoy the game. It’s really fast-paced, and I love the nonstop up-and-down. As an offensive player, I can’t help but love it.”
On playing for his home team as a Centennial, Colo. native:
“Unbelievable. Coming here to Mile High where the Broncos play—it’s my favorite team, and I was born a fan watching people here all the time—to be able to get the opportunity to play here from GM Tony Seaman and Coach is unbelievable and a lifelong dream come true for sure.”
On the significance of the Outlaws’ win against the Nationals:
I think [this game] was important because it was the next one. Now we’re 6-0, and our next important game is Chesapeake, so we’re going to be focused on that for the next week, and hopefully we can build off this. I thought we played two great halves—our defense played great, and we had a great goalie in place—so hopefully we can build off this and keep it going.”

Major League Lacrosse: Denver Outlaws (6-0) Dominate Hamilton Nationals 22-9 On June 8 To Remain Unbeaten And The League’s Top Team; Eric Law (Denver ’13) Scores 4 Goals In MLL Debut

Denver Outlaws vs Hamilton Nationals

In a battle of the best, the Denver Outlaws came out on top. The Outlaws handed the Hamilton Nationals, who entered the matchup as the only other unbeaten team in the league, a 22-9 defeat Saturday evening in front of 4,796 fans at Mile High Stadium. Denver reached the 20-goal mark for the fourth time this year, breaking the franchise single-season record.
“In all my time [in the MLL], I can’t remember a team going 6-0 to start the season,” said faceoff specialist Anthony Kelly. “It’s a great step in the right direction. It’s a step for us to go to that next level and continue moving forward, and hopefully we stay at that No. 1 spot the rest of the way.”
In his MLL debut following his graduation from the University of Denver earlier in the day, Eric Law was named the Player of the Game. The attackman netted four goals after earning the starting nod in the second half.
“To be able to get the opportunity to play [at Mile High Stadium] from [general manager] Tony Seaman and Coach [Stagnitta] is unbelievable and a lifelong dream come true for sure,” he said.
Three other Outlaws—Zack Greer, Drew Snider and Brendan Mundorf—also posted four-goal performances to lead the team to victory in Saturday’s game. Kelly won the faceoff battle, going 20-of-33 at the X.

Major League Lacrosse: Denver Outlaws (5-0) Blast Boston Cannons 24-14 On May 31 In Second-Highest Scoring Effort In Franchise History

Denver Outlaws vs Boston Cannons May 31

The Denver Outlaws had never defeated the Boston Cannons in the Mile High City.
Until Friday night.
The team reversed that trend with authority on Friday night, handing the Cannons a 24-14 defeat with the help of six multiple-goal performances and four two-point goals to tie the second-highest scoring output in franchise history.
Since the team’s inception in 2006, the Outlaws dropped the first five games that they played against the Cannons at home. But Friday’s victory sent the team to 5-0 with its franchise-record 11th conseuctive regular-season win. Boston dropped to 1-4 with the loss.
“[Beating the Cannons at home] is exciting,” Zack Greer said. “[It’s] obviously nice to check that one off. If you don’t win, then you hear about it again.”
The four two-point goals accounted for one-third of the Outlaws’ 24 points and matched a club record for a single game. Jeremy Sieverts scored two, and Justin Turri and Drew Snider contributed one apiece.
“When you can hit those shots, it really changes the game,” Snider said. “It’s not only a momentum swing, but it also puts you up by two. If you’re in a deficit, those twos can really help you out.”
Despite winning fewer than 50 percent of the faceoffs for the first time all season, the Outlaws didn’t face a deficit after trailing 1-0 early in the contest. They compensated for their limited success at the faceoff X with a balanced scoring effort and unselfish play. Snider led the way with five goals, and Greer, Sieverts and Brendan Mundorf each added a hat trick.
“The ball seemed to find me in good spots on the field, and luckily I was able to put them away,” Snider said.
The Cannons’ Brent Adams kicked off the scoring 1:39 into the contest, but the Outlaws responded with a 6-0 run and never trailed again.
Boston clawed its way back into the game, closing out the first quarter with four consecutive goals—including two from Matt Poskay—to narrow the Outlaws’ advantage to one.
