NCAA Lacrosse: Duke Men’s Lacrosse (2-4) Falls Out Of Top 20 For First Time In 10 Years; “Gauntlet” Of Ranked Opponents Continues As Blue Devils Face Loyola At Koskinen Stadium On March 8

Duke Falls to Nation’s No. 1
The Blue Devils squared off with a top-ranked squad for the eighth time since head coach John Danowski took over the reins in 2007 when it welcomed No. 1 Maryland to Koskinen Stadium this past weekend. The Terrapins scored early and built a 7-1 lead and never looked back en route to the 16-7 victory. Josh Offit matched his season high with a pair of goals, while Jordan Wolf added two assists.
Duke played all four goalies during the 60 minutes with Kyle Turri playing 39:47 and making four saves. The loss to the No. 1 Terrapins put Duke at 5-3 against top-ranked squads since 2007.
A Streak Ends
Duke, after suffering its latest setback to No. 1 Maryland, fell out of the rankings for the first time since April 26, 2004. The Blue Devils spent nearly nine seasons among the top 20 squads, including being among the top nine for a total of 98 weeks during the four months that the rankings are released.
Tough Schedule Continues
Duke’s gauntlet of ranked opponents continues this week when it welcomes reigning NCAA Champion and No. 4 Loyola to Koskinen Stadium Friday night. The Blue Devils are 14-10 all-time against the Greyhounds and 5-2 under Danowski. Duke last lost to Loyola in Durham in a 10-8 setback in 2001. The Blue Devils then take on ACC rival North Carolina March 13 on ESPNU at 7:30 p.m.

NCAA Lacrosse: Latest IWLCA Coaches Poll Features Maryland Women’s Lacrosse Ranked #1 Followed By Florida, North Carolina, Northwestern And Syracuse
Who’s Hot?
Johns Hopkins (+5): The Blue Jays beat Loyola for the first time-ever and raced up the poll as a result. Up next: Northwestern.
Who’s Not?
Massachusetts (-3): The Minutewomen fell to BU in overtime in another close game in the recent series history. The one-goal decision marked the fifth-time in the last eight meetings that the outcomes was decided by two or fewer goals.
Ohio St. (-2): The Buckeyes have dropped two in a row to Notre Dame and Stanford.
Penn (-2): The Quakers are still winless on the season after games with Drexel and North Carolina.
Who’s New?
Stanford (18): The Cardinal replaces Louisville in the rankings after winning at Ohio State.
MCLA Lacrosse: Latest Poll Features Colorado State Men’s Lacrosse Ranked #1 Followed By BYU, Stanford, Colorado And Arizona State

Arizona State dropped three pegs after the overtime setback to Chapman, but the Sun Devils miraculously held on to a first place vote. BYU also shaved a first place vote off of CSU stash after the Rams needed overtime to quell UC Santa Barbara. And I think the pollsters just got sick of waiting for Michigan State to start its season, as the Spartans tumble three spots out of boredom.
Who’s Hot
Sonoma State (+6): A one-goal win over California was enough for the pollsters to send the Seawolves rocketing up to the cusp of the Top 10.
Georgia (+3): Bulldogs just keep chugging along. They racked up two more wins this weekend to improve to 8-0.
Who’s Not
Pittsburgh (-7): It almost seems like the pollsters have been lying in wait for a Pitt stumble, because they stuck it to the Panthers after the Tech loss.
Simon Fraser (-4): Our polling relationship with the Clansmen may be nearing an end with No. 1 CSU and No. 4 Colorado looming this weekend.
Who’s New
Arizona: A spiffy little trip to the Pacific Northwest produced a pair of wins — including one over Fraser — and got the ‘Cats back on the board.
Georgia Tech: The Yellow Jackets had a near-miss against Virginia Tech, but they finally landed a big one with the victory over Pittsburgh.
