Midfielder Jordan McBride scored six goals, including three in the first half, and added two assists as the Denver Outlaws moved into a tie for first place in the Major League Lacrosse standings after posting a 21-12 victory over the Hamilton Nationals at Ron Joyce Stadium on Saturday night.
The Outlaws, who improved to 9-3 on the season, are now tied with Chesapeake for the top spot in the league standings after the Bayhawks lost at Boston earlier on Saturday afternoon.
After the teams traded goals in the opening four minutes of the first quarter, midfielder Joe Resetarits gave Hamilton a 2-1 lead with his second goal of the period off an assist from attackman Kevin Crowley.
But, the Outlaws answered by putting together a five-goal run, which included a two-point goal from attackman Jeremy Sieverts, to take a 7-2 lead with 37 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
The teams exchanged goals in the first six minutes of the second quarter before the Nationals used back-to-back goals from Crowley and midfielder Donny Moss to narrow the gap to 8-5.
However, the Outlaws ended the second quarter just like they did in the first quarter by scoring four unanswered goals, including a two-point marker from midfielder Drew Snider, to take a commanding 13-5 advantage into the intermission.
