NCAA Lacrosse: Michigan Men’s Lacrosse Loses 13-9 To Detroit On Feb 12

The University of Michigan men’s lacrosse team played its inaugural varsity contest on Sunday (Feb. 12), losing 13-9 to the Detroit Titans at Ultimate Soccer Arenas.

The Wolverines held leads of 2-0 and 4-2 and were tied with UDM at halftime,

5-5. Knotted at 6-6 midway through the third quarter, Detroit scored six of the next seven goals to pull away for the victory.

Sophomore midfielder Doug Bryant (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) scored the first two goals in U-M history, while fifth-year senior attackman Trevor Yealy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) and junior attackman Thomas Paras (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Ignatius) had two goals as well. Sophomore goalie Dylan Westerhold (Madison, N.J./Pingry School) made six saves, five of which came in the first half.

Detroit’s Shayne Adams and Alex Maini scored four goals and three goals, respectively, to lead the Titans. Goalie A.J. Levell made nine saves, including seven in the final 30 minutes.

Goals came in pairs to start the game. Bryant tallied at 9:59 and 6:35 to stake the Wolverines to an early 2-0. UDM’s Joel Matthews scored consecutively to even the score at 2-2. Yealy then put U-M up 4-2 early in the second frame with back-to-back tallies.
