National League Lacrosse: CBS Sports Network To Broadcast 8 NLL Games In 2012 And 2013

The National Lacrosse League has announced that the league has reached a two-year agreement with CBS Sports Network to air NLL games during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. The national television package for the 2012 season features five regular-season and three post-season games, including the 2012 NLL Championship Game.

 All games will air live on Saturday evenings, marking the first primetime weekly television package in league history. All games will also be broadcast in High Definition.

“We’re excited to have a television partner that is committed to the sport of lacrosse and the National Lacrosse League”, said NLL Commissioner George Daniel. “CBS Sports Network is a fast-growing network, and we look forward to showcasing the hard-hitting and high-scoring action of the NLL.”

“The NLL adds to our extensive line-up of lacrosse programming and we’re thrilled to showcase the compelling action nationally,” said Ross Molloy, Vice President, CBS Sports Network. “Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports and we’re excited to further serve the passionate fan base.”

In an article that appears in this week’s edition of The Sports Business Journal, CBS Sports Network President David said, “We’re making a big lacrosse commitment at the college and pro levels, because while it’s seen a lot of growth recently, we still see a lot of potential remaining”.

Denver Men's Lacrosse Attacker Mark Matthews

Denver burst onto the national contender scene in year two of the Bill Tierney Era last spring, and Matthews was a big reason why. The crafty Canadian attackman was named the ECAC Offensive Player of the Year and his 46 goals and 24 assists accounted for 20 percent of the Pioneers total points.

Rob Pannell, Cornell
The game plan nightmare for opposing coaches is back for another season. The bulldog attackman is the reigning USILA Player of the Year and last season led the nation in points per game (5.24), half a goal more per game than second place, and Cornell to the No. 2 overall seed for the NCAA tournament. He’ll look to repeat the individual success while getting the Big Red deeper in the playoffs.

John Ranagan, Johns Hopkins
Ranagan’s national profile grew larger last season as a sophomore. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound midfieler used his size and skill out of the midfield to earn first-team All-American honors, tally 18 goals and 14 assists and serve as a key part of the group that led the Blue Jays to a 13-3 season.

Steele Stanwick, Virginia
The offense of the defending national champion Cavaliers will run through Stanwick, much like it did down the stretch of last season when the silky smooth attackman produced 21 points in the NCAA tournament to help Virginia win the title.

The academics at Johns Hopkins University are tough for any student, but for Paul Rabil, they were a special hardship.

Rabil, 25, Major League Lacrosse’s 2011 Most Valuable Player, has a condition called auditory processing disorder that can make reading and writing an excruciating trial. Surviving the reading-intensive courses at Hopkins required accommodations available to students with learning disabilities, and time — lots of it — to read and reread material to absorb its meaning.

Rabil, whose new foundation is starting a lacrosse program at the Lab School, knows he is one of the lucky ones. His sister, who attended Lab, has dyslexia, and his brother has auditory processing disorder. He received his diagnosis when he was young enough to avail himself of tutors, note-takers and other accommodations as he went through school, graduating from private DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville.Because the key to helping people learn to live and thrive with dyslexia is early detection and intervention — along with strong family support — Rabil plans to advocate with lawmakers in Maryland for universal dyslexia screening among school children. He is starting a lacrosse program at Lab and plans to raise funds for an annual scholarship there.

Lacrosse Movies: “A Warrior’s Heart” Announces Premiere In New York City And Los Angeles On Dec 2 With National Release On Dec 9

Screened at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival to enthusiastic cheers, “A Warrior’s Heart” will premiere in New York City and Los Angeles on December 2nd and open in select theaters around the country on December 9th.

Kellan Lutz, who co-stars in this weekend’s #1 movie “Immortals” will be taking on his first starring role in the critically acclaimed “A Warrior’s Heart.” Written by Martin Dugard and directed by Mike Sears, “A Warrior’s Heart” stars Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene (“The Twilight Saga”) Chord Overstreet (“Glee”), Adam Beach (“Cowboys and Aliens”), and Gabrielle Anwar (“TV’s “Burn Notice”).

Not only have early screenings of “A Warrior’s Heart” been met with overwhelmingly positive reviews but fans of super hot stars Kellan Lutz, Ashley Greene and Chord Overstreet have been flooding Twitter to tweet news of the film’s release.

Best known for their roles as Emmett and Alice Cullen in the “Twilight” movies, Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene’s incredibly moving performances have been getting a lot of positive buzz and the arduous training Kellan and co-star Chord Overstreet undertook to play star lacrosse players has earned critical praise at early screenings.

In shock and denial over his Marine father’s death, high school lacrosse star Conor Sullivan (Kellan Lutz) starts acting out in self destructive ways including a violent on-field clash with his long-time nemesis (Chord Overstreet). To straighten him out, his mother (Gabrielle Anwar) sends him to a wilderness lacrosse camp run by his dad’s Native American combat buddy (Adam Beach). Strengthened by the love and support from his girlfriend Brooklyn (Ashley Greene) Conor embraces the game’s Native American roots and open his eyes to the true meaning of sportsmanship and life.

Producers Jamie Thompson, Steven Istock and Marc Spizzirri describe the movie as “a romantic and heartfelt family friendly teen love story.”
