NCAA Lacrosse: Stanford Women’s Lacrosse Dominates Cal Berkeley 20-11 On April 29 To Advance To MPSF Final Against Oregon


No. 6 Stanford got its postseason off to a good start with a 20-11 win over California in the MPSF semifinal. The Cardinal will now advance to the MPSF Championship game as it attempts to win the conference tournament for the seventh-consecutive year and earn the automatic berth to the NCAA tournament.

“I thought we played really well on offense,” said head coach Amy Bokker. “We still have some things to work on going forward, but it was a good result.”

Cal jumped out to a quick start, scoring the game’s first two goals in just over a minute of play. The lead would not last long, however, as Stanford would then score 13-consecutive goals.

Sarah Flynn got Stanford on the board at the 24:08 mark in the half as she converted a free-position shot. The Cardinal then tied the score at 2-2 when Emilie Boericonverted a free-position chance.

The Cardinal took its first lead at the 20:42 mark in the half when Anna Boeri collected the ball behind the net and fed a streaking Flynn for her second goal of the game. Catherine Swansonadded to lead moments later with a driving goal down the center of the fan.

The Cardinal extended its lead to 7-2 when Karen Nesbitt shot low for her first goal of the game, then Boeri added her second goal, followed by sister Anna Boeri converting a free-position shot.

NCAA Lacrosse: Oregon Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Denver 7-4 In MPSF Semifinal Game On April 29


Freshman Caroline Federighi ’s nine saves backstopped a dominant defensive effort as the Oregon lacrosse team defeated Denver, 7-4, in the semifinal round of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament on Friday.

First-team All-MPSF selections Alex Breiner and Jana Drummond combined for seven points to move the Ducks (8-8) into their first MPSF Tournament finals appearance in school history. Breiner tallied four points on three goals and an assist while Drummond contributed three points on a goal and an assist.

After falling behind the Pioneers, 6-1, in the regular season finale six days ago, the Ducks got off to a much faster start on Friday. Breiner got the scoring started with her 35th goal of the year 2:52 into the contest and Drummond tacked on her 34th 1:13 later to put UO up 2-0.

Denver bounced back and tallied the next three goals, getting on the board with a little over eight minutes expired on an Alex Befus tally, tying it on a Lauren Ciccomascolo free position goal at 13:57 and grabbing a 3-2 lead on a goal by Annebelle Gilbride with 9:06 remaining in the opening frame.

Undeterred, the Ducks countered with three unanswered goals of their own to close the first half up 5-3. Drummond’s second goal of the day evened the contest at 3-3, Bina Barrett put the Ducks back in front with 3:18 remaining and Hayley Milner converted a Breiner feed to make it 5-3 a minute later.

NCAA Lacrosse: Video Highlights Of UMass Men’s Lacrosse (9-4) 11-5 Win Over Delaware


Freshman Connor Mooneystole the show on Senior Night as the rookie tallied a career-high five goals to lead No. 19 UMass to a dominating 11-5 win over Delaware under the lights at Garber Field. With the win, UMass will travel to either Hofstra or Penn State in the CAA Semifinals on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The seeding spots are unknown, but based on tie-breakers UMass will play at PSU if the Nittany Lions lose at Hofstra on Saturday night. If Hofstra loses to PSU on Saturday, UMass will now play at Hofstra on Wednesday.

The Minutemen are now 9-4 overall and finish the CAA season at 4-2. Delaware is also 4-2 in the league and 9-6 overall. The decisive game for determing the CAA standings takes place at Hofstra tomorrow as Penn State plays at the Pride. The winner of the Hofstra-PSU game cliches the league regular-season crown with a 5-1 record while the three others (including UMass and Delaware) would tie for second at 4-2. In a three-way tie with Penn State for second, the standings finish: PSU, UMass and Delaware. With Hofstra in the trio it would be: Hofstra, UMass and Delaware based on tie-breakers.
