National Lacrosse League: Washington Stealth (2-3) Lose To Minnesota Swarm 11-10 In OT; Colorado Mammoth (1-3) Fall To Philadelphia 12-11

Minnesota Swarm 11 Washington Stealth 10 (OT)

The NLL defending champion Washington Stealth (2-3) can’t seem to crack the Minnesota Swarm (3-1) this season. After handing the Stealth their worst defeat since the 2009 playoffs in Week 2, the Swarm grabbed yet another win from them in Minnesota Saturday by winning in overtime 11-10.

Ryan Benesch netted the game-winner 2:13 into the extra frame. The Swarm’s victory ended their overtime losing streak at six.

“It’s great to get that win,” Swarm head coach Mike Lines said. “We went into overtime shorthanded, but we fought through it. It was obviously frustrating, but that win felt great.”

Philadelphia Wings 12    Colorado Mammoth 11

If there was any question of whether the Philadelphia Wings’ (3-2) early season offensive woes were officially a thing of the past, the Wings answered it in Saturday night’s first half. Philadelphia’s offense exploded for 10 first half goals in route to a 12-11 win over the Colorado Mammoth (1-3) Saturday at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

The Wings got quality looks throughout the first half, scoring on 10 of their 22 shots. Colorado coach Bob Hamley pulled goaltender Chris Levis early in the second quarter in favor of backup Rob Blasdell, only to then go back to Levis late in the same quarter as the offensive barrage continued from Philadelphia.

Saturday’s contest marked the third consecutive game that Philadelphia reached the double digit goal mark, unsurprisingly all Wings’ victories. Star forward Athan Iannucci’s resurgence has gone hand in hand with the team’s recent offensive success. Iannucci led the way again against Colorado, notching 3 goals and 3 assists on the night, bringing his season totals to 11 goals and 11 assists.
