California College Women’s Lacrosse: Redlands Women’s Lacrosse (11-8) Completed Successful 2010 Season By Advancing To SCIAC Tournament Championship Game

Record: 11-8, 6-4 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (2nd in conference)

Playoffs: Advanced to the finals of the first-ever SCIAC Tournament Championship where they lost to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 16-11

Season Summary: Taking part in just its 12th year as a varsity sport, the University of Redlands women’s lacrosse team did something it had never done before in the 2010 season -

compete for a SCIAC championship.

After years of playing only a non-conference schedule, the Bulldogs got the opportunity to play for a conference title and came close to making it a dream season.

Redlands opened up with their first-ever “SCIAC showdown” when they hosted Occidental College to begin the season.

A rematch with Whittier in the semifinals produced another Bulldog win, 14-6, and advanced Redlands to the finals to face their nemesis in C-M-S.

In a hard-fought match that proved to be the closest contest of the season between the two schools, the Bulldogs found themselves on the wrong end of a 16-11 loss despite getting five goals from senior midfielder Haley Kern.

UR closed out the 2010 season with a 20-6 loss at home to Adrian College.

Western College Women’s Lacrosse: University Of Utah Forms Women’s Lacrosse Team To Compete In US Lacrosse WDIA Rocky Mountain Women’s Lacrosse League (RMWLL) In 2011

The Campus Recreation Services Department of the University of Utah announces formation of the Ute women’s lacrosse team for spring 2011. The women’s lacrosse club program will be a part of the Rocky Mountain Women’s Lacrosse League (RMWLL) and the US Lacrosse Women’s Division Intercollegiate Associates (WDIA). In addition to playing a full RMWLL spring 2011 schedule, the program will include summer clinics and 2010 fall ball.

According to Glen Shurtleff, Director of Ute Women’s Lacrosse, “There are over 900 girls playing competitive lacrosse at the high school level in Utah. It’s only logical there should be more opportunities for these girls to continue lacrosse at the collegiate level without having to leave Utah. Combining the opportunity to play women’s lacrosse with the University of Utah’s educational opportunities, including the full range of academic majors, provides the best opportunities for these future college athletes.”

Home field for Ute women’s lacrosse will be the McCarthey Family Track and Field currently under construction at the University of Utah. This artificial turf field will include permanent lines for women’s lacrosse.

Utah Youth Lacrosse Tournaments: Park City “Ski Town Shoot-Out” On June 18-19 Featured 84 Boys And Girls Lacrosse Teams From Western U.S.

Last Friday and Saturday, the Ski Town Shoot-Out lacrosse tournament spread hordes of youth players across one of Utah’s premier lacrosse hotbeds: Summit County.

In its sixth year, the event drew 84 teams from around the Western U.S. and some of the nation’s most respected youth referees, said organizer Niki Harding. Teams came from Illinois, Texas, Colorado, Idaho, Arizona and California, as well as right down the road in Park City. The boys’ ranks were limited to eighth grade and lower, while girls of all ages were invited to compete for the first time.

“It’s a celebration of the end of the season,” Harding said. “Last year, we had a downpour out here, but you couldn’t have paid for better weather this year.”

The event kicked off with opening ceremonies Friday morning at the central plaza at The Canyons, paying a tribute to the Spirit of the Game with Tribal West Lacrosse’s Chief Burning Squirrel, who lit a ceremonial torch.
