Northern California High School Boys Lacrosse: De LaSalle Boys Lacrosse (18-6) Defeat Foothill To Win Second Consecutive CIF-North Coast Section Championship

Chris Pereira, one of the top offensive weapons for the De La Salle High lacrosse team, didn’t do any scoring for most of Friday’s North Coast Section boys final against East Bay Athletic League rival Foothill.

But when he did come through, it was in a big way. He scored the tying goal with 10 seconds left in the fourth period and scored the winner at the 2:46 mark in double overtime to give the Spartans (18-6) back-to-back titles with an 11-10 victory at Dublin High.

NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championships: Unseeded Notre Dame Men’s Lacrosse (9-6) Storms Into Semifinals To Face #7 Cornell

Notre Dame (9-6) is a significant underdog to No. 7 seed Cornell (12-5) in the first semifinal at 4 p.m. Saturday at M&T Bank Stadium. And if the Fighting Irish get past the Big Red, a meeting Monday with either No. 1 Virginia or No. 5 Duke awaits.

With traditional powers Virginia, Duke and Cornell filling three of the four spots in the NCAA tournament semifinals, the appearance of Notre Dame is somewhat akin to the long-lost cousin showing up unannounced at Thanksgiving dinner.

A 7-5 victory over No. 3 seed Maryland in the quarterfinals Saturday cemented the Fighting Irish’s place in history as just the ninth unseeded team, and first since Delaware in 2007, to advance to the national semifinals.

Northern California High School Boys Lacrosse: St. Ignatius Prep Boys Lacrosse (20-2) Wins Inaugural West Catholic Athletic League Lacrosse Championship With 16-10 Victory Over Bellarmine

Although St. Ignatius has been a perennial Northern California lacrosse power for more than a decade, something was always missing for the Wildcats at the end of the season.

Playing as an independent, St. Ignatius had never played in a postseason game since lacrosse became an official CIF sport.

That all ended this season, when St. Ignatius (20-2) won the inaugural West Catholic Athletic League lacrosse championship by beating Bellarmine of San Jose earlier this month.

Utah High School Boys Lacrosse Championships: Timpanogos Boys Lacrosse Defeated Spanish Fork 7-6 To Win Division II State Championship

Handley faked a pass, which gave him all the room he needed to score the winning shot with 11 seconds left and beat Spanish Fork 7-6.

For the Timpanogos lacrosse team, a season of ups and downs culminated with one straight line.

It was the path charted by the ball Stewart Handley rocketed out of his pocket and into the upper right corner of the net in the state championship game against Spanish Fork on May 15.

Timpanogos ended the season in a three-way tie for first in its division, but lost its final three games of the regular season to Spanish Fork, Orem and Pleasant Grove. Of those teams, Spanish Fork was the only team from Division II, and Schow suspected his team might meet the Dons again.

Orange County High School Boys Lacrosse: Corona Del Mar Attacker Ryan Mix Awarded Player Of The Year Honors

Corona del Mar Attacker #10 Ryan Mix was the 2010 Orange County High School Boys Lacrosse Player of the Year. Photo by LaxBuzz

Expectations for Corona del Mar’s boys lacrosse team weren’t as high going into this season because of the loss of some key players to graduation.

But that only served as inspiration for Ryan Mix, The Orange County Register’s 2010 boys lacrosse player of the year.

“The entire season, we defied expectations,” Mix said. “No one else would have really believed we could do what we did the year before. We came out with really low rankings and low expectations, even from people on the team, and we came out and surprised everyone.”
