NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championships: Virginia Men’s Lacrosse (16-1) Defeated Stony Brook 10-9 And Will Play In Final Four

Sophomore attackman Chris Bocklet scored three goals and assisted on two others, and the Virginia men’s lacrosse team held off an upset-minded Stony Brook squad to win, 10-9, in a NCAA tournament quarterfinal before an announced 10,024 at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.

The top-seeded Cavaliers (16-1) advanced to their third consecutive Final Four and their seventh in the past nine years. Meanwhile, the No. 8 seed Seawolves ended their season at 13-4 and could not add a first national semifinal berth to the first quarterfinal appearance they earned this season.

NCAA Men’s Lacross: Cornell Men’s Lacrosse (12-5) Defeats Army 14-5 And Moves On To Final Four

Ryan Hurley had four goals and an assist and Rob Pannell scored twice and had three assists to help seventh-seeded Cornell cruise past unseeded Army 14-5 Sunday in the NCAA lacrosse quarterfinals.

The Big Red (12-5), who fell in overtime to Syracuse in the 2009 championship game, will face unseeded Notre Dame (9-6) in the semifinals Saturday in Baltimore. Army (11-6) had upset second-seeded Syracuse in the opening round.

Colorado High School Boys Lacrosse: Cherry Creek Boys Lacrosse (17-2) Defeats Regis Jesuit 11-4 To Win State Championship

No disrespect to Cherry Creek’s three previous boys lacrosse state championship teams, Bruins coach Bryan Perry emphatically said, but the group that hoisted the 2010 state trophy at Invesco Field at Mile High on Saturday could cause a grown man to cry.

Perry wasn’t visibly teary-eyed after his relatively young squad easily defeated Regis 11-4 for the state crown. That comes Monday when Perry is reminded that the season is over.

“Win or lose this game, man, on Monday I’m going to miss the 2010 Bruins, because they were a heck of a version of the Bruins,” Perry said. “From start to finish, from September to now, they’ve done everything we’ve asked of them.”

NCAA Men’s Lacrosse: Notre Dame Men’s Lacrosse (9-6) Defeated #3 Maryland 7-5 To Advance To Final Four

Notre Dame is making the most of receiving an at-large berth to the NCAA men’s lacrosse tournament. Sophomore Sean Rogers scored three goals to lead the unseeded Fighting Irish to a 7-5 upset of third-seeded Maryland on Saturday in the national quarterfinals at Princeton Stadium

Awarded a berth despite losing four of its final six regular season games, Notre Dame (9-6) jumped out to a 5-1 lead and held off the Terrapins by dominating the midfield, winning the face-off battle and taking advantage of Maryland’s poor shooting.

 Notre Dame, which defeated host and sixth-seeded Princeton last week, will play the winner of Sunday’s game

between Army and Cornell in a semifinal next Saturday. It will be Notre Dame’s second appearance in the final four, but first since finishing third in 2001.

NCAA Men’s Lacrosse: Duke Men’s Lacrosse (14-4) Defeated North Carolina 17-9 To Advance To Final Four

The No. 5 seed Duke University men’s lacrosse team outscored fourth-seed North Carolina 5-1 in the fourth quarter to capture a 17-9 victory in front of 8,260 fans at Princeton Stadium this afternoon. The Blue Devils advance to the NCAA Semifinals for the fourth consecutive year and for the sixth time overall.

Senior attackman Ned Crotty led all scorers with three goals and three assists for six points, while junior attackman Zach Howell led all scorers with four goals and one assist. Completing the starting attack unit, senior Max Quinzani added three goals. The trio of Crotty, Quinzani and Howell combined for 10 of the game’s 17 goals.  Senior midfielder Steve Schoeffel chipped in three points from two goals and an assist.
