Lakeridge High School played host to some of the top collegiate lacrosse programs in the nation last weekend. Coach Curt Sheinin hopes to make last week’s event an annual one as teams from Oregon, Arizona State, Chapman and Simon Fraser played on the Pacers’ field in front of big crowds despite the bad weather.

Lakeridge’s Michael Hoch winds up for a shot in the Pacers’ recent win over Riverdale. The Pacers also beat Southridge prior to the school hosting four top-10 college lacrosse teams over the weekend.
In all, 12 graduates from Lakeridge and Lake Oswego High Schools play for Oregon and Chapman’s teams and Sheinin’s son is the offensive coordinator for Chapman.
“It was a thrill for our guys to see their teammates or alumni doing so well. To see the speed and the quality of play at the college level was a real eye opener for them,” Sheinin said.
All four teams in attendance are ranked in the top 10 in the country and three are ranked in the top five.
Arizona St. beat Oregon 11-8 in a close hard-fought game and Chapman knocked off Simon Fraser 11-8.
“We’d love to get Oregon to play another game here. I think all four teams really enjoyed it,” Sheinin said. Prior to the game, Lakeridge knocked off Southridge 13-8 in a game that wasn’t as close as the final score.
The Pacers jumped out to an early 7-1 lead after the first quarter but then let off the gas.

“I think we lost our focus and our intensity a little bit. We never could put them away,” Sheinin said.
Brandon Blackmore was the team’s leading scorer in the game as Lakeridge’s staring attack line put together a solid performance.
The Pacers then picked up a league victory against Riverdale 10-2 in near hurricane conditions at home on Monday.
“It was miserable. It was sloppy on both ends. Neither team could complete a pass,” Sheinin said.
But Lakeridge’s defense kept Riverdale from getting into a rhythm. Starting goalie Warren Nielsen played just one quarter and back-up goalie David Salamie did a strong job in front of the net.
The Pacers also did well on face-offs to grind out the game in tough conditions.
The Pacers are now gearing up for the first Civil War game on Friday and will play the second game of a double header against Lake Oswego on Friday.
“Whoever wins is going to have a leg up in league. It’ll be a good gauge for us,” Sheinin said.
