Perhaps it was playing their first game on the road, perhaps the lighting was different or perhaps the grass was taller, but The Woodlands Varsity committed 26 turnovers (many of them unforced) in their game against EHS. The
Woodlands also fared terribly in the face off department by winning only 10 of 26 faces. So, enough of the bad news. Let’s push forward to the good stuff.
The good news is they were talented enough to overcome those mistakes to win and move their record to 5-0 (3-0 in district).

Sophomore attack Ian Seale had a big night with 6 points on 4 goals and 2 assists. Junior attack Jackson LaPlant had 5 points (3 goals and 2 assists) and freshman attack Connor Pryor chipped in with 5 points on 3 assists and 2 goals. Special recognition should go to Pryor as he stepped in and filled some big shoes (figuratively, not literally, for those who know Spencer Willey) when sophomore attack Bucky Desedier fell ill and sophomore attack Spencer Willey went down in the first half with a severely sprained ankle. Junior middie Chase Rogers added 3 goals and sophomore middie Connor Milton banged 2 goals in the game. Senior middie C J Conlon dished an assist, sophomore attack Spencer Willey got on the board before his injury by adding a goal and junior middie Luke Anderson banged a goal to round out the scoring in the game for The Woodlands.
It only took 9 seconds for Episcopal to give The Woodlands the message that they were here to play and weren’t going to make this win an easy one. EHS won the face, their middie raced down the field and dished a beautiful assist to their attackman who finished it off and, just like that, EHS was up 1-0. The Woodlands answered quickly when Ian Seale got things rolling for The Woodlands with an assist to Jackson LaPlant for a goal with 9:47 left in the first. LaPlant then forced a turnover on a ride, picked up the ground ball, raced to the net and banged a goal at the 7:27 mark to give The Woodlands a 2-1 lead.
EHS answered right back with a goal with 6:28 in the 1st. With 2:01 left in the 1st, Seale scored an unassisted goal and then dished a beautiful assist to Spencer Willey near the net for a goal with 13 seconds to go. The 1st quarter ended with The Woodlands up 2-1.
Seale dished another assist, this time to junior middie Chase Rogers for a goal at the 10:30 mark in the 2nd quarter for what appeared to be a commanding lead of 5-2. EHS had other plans as they scored the next two goals at the 7 minute and 4:27 marks respectively to make the score 5-4 in favor of The Woodlands. freshman attack Connor Pryor assisted Seale for a goal with 1:55 mark to give the Woodlands a little breathing room with 1:55 to go before the half. However, EHS again showed their mettle with 2 more goals at the 30 second mark and the 15 second mark to tie the score at 6-6 at halftime. The Woodlands only attempted 3 shots in the 2nd quarter.
The Woodlands came out inspired in the 3rd and scored 4 straight goals to take the lead by a score of 10-6. LaPlant had an unassisted goal at the 10:38 mark. The two Connors, Pryor and Milton, hooked up when Pryor assisted Milton for a goal with 9:25 left in the 3rd. Senior middie C J Conlon got on the board when he assisted Milton, who promptly banged it home with 8:27 left and LaPlant dished to Pryor for a goal with 7:11 left. So, within 5 minutes of play, The Woodlands scored 4 straight goals to take the lead at 10-6. Once again EHS refused to quit and scored two goals of their own at the 4:23 and 3:07 marks. When the buzzer sounded to end the 3rd quarter The Woodlands had a narrow lead of 10-8.
The 4th quarter started well when Pryor again assisted Rogers for a goal in a man up situation with 8:30 left in the game to make the score 11-8. EHS again answered the call by quickly scoring a goal at the 8:02 mark to bring them back to within 2 goals at 11-9. LaPlant found Pryor and he hit the back of the net at the 7:43 mark and Seale hit junior middie Luke Anderson who banged it through and The Woodlands now held a 13-9 lead with 6:54 left. Rogers then forced a turn over, scooped the ground ball and scored with 2:31 left in the game to give The Woodlands a commanding lead at 14-9. EHS managed a goal with 46 seconds left and the game ended with the score 14-9 in favor of The Woodlands.
Senior defenseman Michael Rizzuti was ground ball king with 8 while LaPlant scooped up 7 gb’s. Junior goalie Chris Howell hung in strong and had 9 saves for the night. Senior defensemen Rizzuti, Jack Whelan, Kevin Kohli and Erik Espino played hard while somewhat containing EHS high powered offense. Also helping out on D was junior defenseman Nick Sivon (welcome back), sophomore LSM Nate Kaufman and sophomore defenseman Jack Whelan.
