Both the Men’s and Women’s Elite tournaments started on Thursday with excitement and drama in both brackets. Rain and lightning delayed action briefly in the afternoon, but the cloudy skies were a nice change of pace from the heat of the previous few days. The best game of the day on the men’s side saw the Conifer Water/Rocky Mountain Oysters take down the dangerous, but young Baltimore Crabs, 15-13. The rest of the quarterfinal field was set as well. On the women’s side, teams completed the first day of pool play, and Gang Green is the early favorite.

Men’s Elite
Conifer Water/Rocky Mountain Oysters weren’t exactly supposed to lose the game to the Baltimore Crabs today, but they did surprise some people with their victory. As the game wore on, it became apparent that their veteran roster just had more in the tank than their young counterparts across the sideline. The Collared Greens upset the Lofers to move into the championship bracket as well with a 12-10 win. Merrill Lynch/Lacrossewear, Team 21, Last Call, Brine Elite, Lacrossewear’s Jammin’ Salmon and the Club All-Stars all had comfortable victories.
Tomorrow’s quarterfinals should feature some excellent games. Look for Team 21 vs. Conifer Water/Rocky Mountain Oysters to be the game of the day on Ford Field at 1:00 pm. Collared Greens will have their hands full in the 9:00 am game against Last Call and Merrill Lynch/Lacrossewear can’t look past Brine Elite, which has moved into the championship bracket for the first time. The 3:00 pm game will feature the strong Club All-Stars team taking on perennial tournament stalwart Lacrossewear’s Jammin’ Salmon.

Women’s Elite
Thursday and Day 1 are complete. A rain delay caused a longer day than expected. The last game was wet, but spirits were high. The first day saw the top seeds winning with the exception of Pool A. TexLax, the bottom seed, was down 6 to 2 but came back to win a close contest, 13-12. Lizards were set to take over Pool B and hold their 7-4 lead. CRSLax.com continued the fight and edged their way back to a 7-7 tie in regulation. With a minute to go in OT, Rachel Culp made a beautiful spin move and placed her shot in the top left corner to steal the win and the top position in the pool.
