Orange County High School Boys Lacrosse All-County First Team: Foothill Knights Boys Lacrosse, Corona Del Mar And Los Alamitos Represented By 3 Players Each

Jack Cranston, Santa Margarita, attack: The senior had 86 goals and 39 assists for 125 points along with 99 groundballs. He was named the offensive player of the year in the Trinity League. He is headed to Vermont to play lacrosse next year.

Mike Marchand, Los Alamitos, attack: The junior was named first team All-Sunset League and had 114 points (59 goals and 55 assists), an average of 5.4 points a game. He also had 68 groundballs.

Ryan Mix, Corona del Mar, attack: Mix, who is headed to Notre Dame, helped the Sea Kings reach the Orange County championship game. He scored 66 goals and had 36 assists despite being out with an injury for three games.

Brett Overend, Laguna Hills, attack: A first-team all-league player, Overend was the Hawks top player, with 86 goals and 32 assists and wound up with 212 career points.

C.J. Jacobs, Los Alamitos, midfielder: Jacobs, who was an All-County selection last year, was first team All-Sunset League selection, with 65 goals and 44 assists for 109 total points. He also had 108 groundballs, an average of 5.8 per game.

Chris Cole, Foothill, midfielder: Cole was a key player on Foothill’s Southern California championship squad, scoring 42 goals and notching 14 assists and picking up 82 groundballs.

Eddie Dainko, Foothill, longstick midfielder: Dainko, a first-team All-Sea View League player, had 126 groundballs and “always took the top defensive assignments,” said Coach Jon Fox.

Duke deLancellotti, San Clemente, midfielder: The senior, a first-team All-South Coast League selection, had 30 goals and 45 assists along with 65 groundballs.

Kenny Smith, Los Alamitos, defense: The senior, a first-team All-Sunset League selection, hauled in 91 groundballs for a 4.3 average for the third-ranked Griffins.

Richard Song, Foothill, defense: Song was a key player on the Knights’ Southern California championship team with 23 groundballs. Coach Jon Fox describes him as the “best Foothill” defenseman.

Jeremy Baileys, St. Margaret’s, defense: Baileys helped the Tartars notch a share of the Trinity League title, recording 102 groundballs and 18 take-aways.

Brendan Yount, JSerra, defense: Yount, who has received a scholarship to Bellarmine University, was a tough defender, recording 103 groundballs. The JSerra captain, the defensive MVP of the Trinity League, also had three goals and two assists.

Andrew Noto, Corona del Mar, goalie: Noto had 202 saves and a save percentage of 72 percent. He is headed to UC Santa Barbara and was recruited by more than 20 programs, according to Coach Mark Todd.

Nick Carrasco, El Toro, goalie: A first-team all-Sea View League player, Carrrasco helped the Chargers remain earn a No. 4 ranking in Orange County.

College Men’s Lacrosse: Scoring In Division I-III Men’s Lacrosse Rose In 2009 After Falling For The Three Years Following 2005

Scoring was up this past spring in all three NCAA men’s divisions, with the biggest jump in Division II, and average goals per game rose for the fourth straight year in two of the three women’s divisions.  Although the scoring in 2009 remained well below the averages at the beginning of the decade, in men’s Divisions I, II, and III it was the highest in the last six, three, and seven years, respectively.

California State Boys Club Lacrosse Championship: Newbury Park High School Boys Lacrosse Defeats Petaluma 8-7 Sunday Night To Win State Championship

Newbury Park defeated Petulma 8-7 in a battle of the state’s two top-ranked teams at Newbury Park. The Newbury Park players are Cody Mauricio, Josh Lorimer, Luke Klein, Vijay Higgin, Tyler Wu, Tucker Stone, Steven Esser, Sebold, Wood, Weston Taylor, Jared Roesc, George Belat, Aidan Mohr, Chad Coppermith, Mitch Graves, Joshua Junge, Cayden Malpasuto, Anthony Coccia, goalie Kevin Miyamoya, McLean Smith, Tyler Penix, Daniel Alvarez, Garrett, Ryan Hillard, Ryan Gabby, Wesley LaBar, Connor Saucier, Justin Roberts, Austin Ebner, Marinelli and Teague Zavitz.

The Newbury Park High lacrosse team went from a winless season four years ago to California State Club champions on Sunday.

Newbury Park defeated Petaluma 8-7 in a battle of the state’s two top-ranked teams at Newbury Park.

Newbury Park jumped out to a 5-1 advantage in the first half.

Mark Wood scored three goals to lead the Prowlers 17-3 overall.

Zack Garrett added two goals and two assists.

Nick Marinelli scored two goals and Geoffrey Sebold rounded out the scoring.

Petaluma, the No. 1-ranked team in the state, was led by P.D. Rubens with two goals. Will Walls, Carter Olson, Devin Chiappari and Gabe Adams scored goals.

Chiappari had three assists. Walls and Slack each had an assist.

Newbury Park coach Don Fehmel said his boys started playing lacrosse in the Conejo Valley League.

“When they didn’t win a game, they kept playing and all the hard work paid off,” said Fehmel.

Last year, Newbury Park was a state semifinalist.

West Valley of Northern California won the 2008 state title. Oak Park was the 2007 state champion.

Fehmel credits his team’s success to assistant coaches Aaron Ferguson and Max Ritz. Ritz, a Maryland lacrosse product, serves as the offensive coordinator. Ferguson, a Cal Lutheran graduate and club player, was the goalie coach and defensive coordinator.

Fehmel, from Long Island, N.Y., started playing lacrosse as a youth and played at Hillsdale College in Michigan.

Newbury Park’s Wood, a senior, was the Southern California Lacrosse Association player of the year. Wood will continue his education and lacrosse career at Bridgehampton Academy in Maine.

Wood started playing the sport four years ago.

Newbury Park, the Southern California Association champion, defeated Casa Grande 8-7 in Saturday’s action. Petaluma rolled past SoCal runner-up Thousand Oaks 13-7.

During the Conejo Valley League season, the Prowlers lost twice against Thousand Oaks and once to Westlake. In the league playoffs, Newbury Park defeated Thousand Oaks.

Newbury Park ended the season with a seven-game win streak.

Bronze game: Casa Grande edged Thousand Oaks 8-7 in the bronze medal game. Teddy Osmundson, Matt Samet and Jamison Bobo each scored two goals for Casa Grande of Petaluma. Tony Milano and Rudy Tescallo each added a goal. Goalie Brandon Patochhi had eight saves.

Dustin Marvin and Hans Molitor each scored two goals and had one assist before leaving the game with injuries, Cameron Chupp, Matt McQuade and Connor Reilly added goals. Hunter Coleman and Nick Caprarelli each had one assist. Marvin was the Conejo Valley scoring leader.

Thousand Oaks goalie Edie McGilvra made eight saves.

Thousand Oaks finished its season at 11-6.
