Northwestern needed less than a minute to get rolling on its way toward a fifth straight NCAA Division 1 national championship in women’s lacrosse, pounding North Carolina in a record-setting 21-7 victory yesterday in Towson, Md.

Hilary Bowen scored the first of her five goals 48 seconds in, and Westwood’s Meredith Frank helped turn a 4-2 lead for the Wildcats (23-0) into a 15-3 halftime cushion with a pair of strikes.

Northwestern set several records, including points in a season (570), goals in a season (407), and goals in a championship game.

Jenn Russell had two goals for North Carolina (16-5), which was playing in its first title game.
