“…Long signed his letter of intent to play college lacrosse at the University of Virginia. Long just picked up the sport a few years ago but quickly has become a very good defenseman…”

He comes from a football family and he’s been a star quarterback at Saint Anne’s Belfield the last few years but Wednesday, Howie Long. Jr. made it official: he’s choosing a different sport for college.

Wednesday, Long signed his letter of intent to play college lacrosse at the University of Virginia. Long just picked up the sport a few years ago but quickly has become a very good defenseman.

Long says he looked other schools, but with Virginia having a great academic reputation and an outstanding lacrosse program, and being close to home, it was an easy decision.

  1. Went to the s.u. Game vs. UVA. Bowie long,s name was not on the roster. What happened ?

  2. Also missing was sophomore Howie Long Jr., son of the former NFL star. Starsia said Long he won’t be participating with the team this season due to academic issues.

“We wish him the best,” the coach said. “My understanding is that he’s back in school, and its not inconceivable that someday he might be a part of this program again.”

  3. hey howie. Its been a long time and miss your family. Chris has gone a long ways since i have seen your family. Im sorry to hear about your wife. My dad is the architect that made the park in VA. I wish kept playing baseball. But i just wanted to say hi. Because you are a good man.

  4. Stood on the sidelines with Howie at Lacrosse games and football games watching his sons. Howie is a class act, and so is Howie Jr. This family has been a blessing to the sports world. Thank you Howie for giving us your son, and for letting the new American Game have Howie Jr.
