St. Ignatius Prep’s Roy Lang Welcomed To Cornell Lacrosse

A two-time high school All-American at St. Ignatius Prep, Lang was also selected to participate in the 2008 Under Armour All-America game. He was a three-year varsity letter winner, earning his team’s MVP award as a senior captain. Lang led St. Ignatius Prep to back-to-back 19-1 seasons. As a senior, he scored 74 goals and added 25 assists as his team obtained a No. 1 ranking in California, a No. 2 ranking in the Western region, and a No. 16 ranking in the nation. The 2007 California Boys Player of the Year, Lange registered 77 goals and 27 assists as a junior. Lang also lettered twice in football and played two years of soccer, earning all-league and all-metro honors on the gridiron.”
“Roy is a big, strong dodging midfielder that has excellent size and is coming to school with a Division I frame. Once he develops in the weight room physically and has a year under his belt, we think the sky is the limit in terms of his potential. He is an excellent prospect but he needs to develop more as a lacrosse player.”
ITHACA, N.Y. – Jeff Tambroni, the Richard M. Moran Head Coach of Cornell Lacrosse, has announced the addition of nine freshmen to the roster for the 2009 season. Scott Austin, Chip Daugherty, JJ Gilbane, Chris Langton, Roy Lang, Mitch McMichael, Rob Pannell, Matt Restaino, and TJ Weyl will join the Big Red as they begin fall practice the week of September 15.

“Across the board, this class is extremely athletic and they are going to help us as a program,” said Tambroni. “We are excited about the athleticism that these nine guys bring to the field. It’s a group that has some pretty good lacrosse skills and a pretty high lacrosse IQ. Still, they’re going to need some instruction and repetition, because most of them are two- or three-sport athletes, but once they start playing lacrosse year-round, their potential is very exciting.”

UCSB Lacrosse To Play In Hawaii Invitational Lacrosse Tournament In October

Aug. 22, 2008

Santa Barbara, CA – UCSB will travel to Oahu October 23rd – 26th to play in the Hawaii Lacrosse Tournament. It is the second year the Gauchos are going to play lacrosse in Hawaii as part of Fall Ball training. The tournament is played at Kapiolani Park at the foot of Diamondhead (pictured here).Diamondhead in Waikiki Last year two UCSB teams participated in a set of games outside the brackets due to flight scheduling. The Gauchos plan to participate in the tournament brackets this year. The two separate teams combined for a 6-0 record playing only on Friday and Saturday in Hawaii in 2007.

“Getting an affordable airfare was the deciding factor in our flight schedule last year,” says UCSB head coach Paul Ramsey. “This year we’re booking our flights earlier so we can stay long enough on Sunday to compete for the championship.”

Ramsey sponsors a post-collegiate team in the tournament. The players who comprise the East West Sports Camps team have won the tournament championship six of the last seven years. They are a mix of camp staff, friends and ringers brought in for the weekend.
