Players’ Note: Two things I cannot stress enough that turned coaches off: mouthing off and bad grades/test scores. A number of times, players would call for a flag and the coaches around whom I was sitting would nearly gag. Other times, a player would show a brilliant flash of skill and coaches would turn to his page in the packet, only to shake their heads when they realized the player couldn’t qualify at a top tier academic institution.
